S
raboni Sen has a richness in her voice. The texture of the sound is reminiscent
of the morning sun radiating on scarlet Krishna Churas. With each note, the
beauty comes across more than before, embracing and imparting energy. All this
makes it interesting to consider that music was not her first aspiration. After
spending several years as a journalist, Sen decided to enter into the music
profession.
However,
her change in career was not her first exposure to music. Sen's mother,
Sumitra, and elder sister, Indrani, are eminent Rabindra Sangeet singers.
Exposure to music from the very beginning had an impact on Sraboni Sen,
allowing her to foster her gift of song. An outstanding student at Gitabitan,
her potential as a Rabindra Sangeet singer was never elusive., and she has
proven herself well. She has displayed her talent all over India, as well as in
Europe, at venues such as the Nehru Centre in London. With a wide array of
Rabindra Sangeet albums and a demanding performance schedule, Srabani Sen has
established herself as a true student of Rabindra Sangeet. The greatest gift
lies in the soft voice which has the power to command the senses of those who
listen.
Upon
first hearing her voice, the resonance of her perfectly pitched style makes one
awestruck, and easily allows oneself to be immersed in the stunning sound. As
we listen to her interpretations of Tagore's songs, some of which were written
over a hundred years ago, we are confident that the tradition of Rabindra
Sangeet will continue far into the 21st century with such talented torch
bearers like her.
