Born
in a family of distinguished musicians, Manilal Nag has been recognized as one
of the exceptionally talented Sitar player of Indian Classical music. He is a
master of improvisation and possesses the rare ability to mold a musical
composition into a captivating arrangement.
Manilal
hails from a family of musicians belonging to the Bishnupur ghanara - a style
of music that is nearly three hundred years old. At the age of five, Manilal
was initiated in the art of Sitar playing under the strict guidance of his
illustrious father, the Late Sri Gokul Nag.
After
ten years of rigorous musical study and ardent practice, Manilal made his debut
performance at the All India Music Conference accompanied by the great Tabla
player, Pandit Samta Prasad. Since then, he has been one of the most sought
after artists both in India as well as abroad.
Pandit
Manila Nag is presently a member of the Audition Board of the All India Radio -
Calcutta and a member of the University Grants Commission as an Expert
Examiner.
